Do you know the difference between Kimono and Yukata ?
Kimono which translates as "thing to wear", is a broad term to identify garments in general, though we tend to associate kimono with the formal robe typically made from silk and worn to formal occasions and ceremonies.
The yukata with the same basic construction as kimono, are made from cotton and usually worn during summer season or festivals. Sometimes they are also worn as a bathrobes in places such as hot springs.

Kamogawa yuka !

Hi everyone !
Did you hear about the Kyoto yuka dining along the kamo River ?
During May, many japanese people are going to enjoy the " kamogawa yuka " or a riverside balconies made by wood, is the unique chance to enjoy the meal and admire the amazing view of Kamogawa river :) this is kind of seasonal symbol of Kyoto, it makes people remind that Spring will finish soon and the city has set up to welcome the summer !
Recently the restaurants propose different kind of food ( usually traditional Japanese dishes ) and some cafes and bars are being built on the yuka that's why the guests can order their favorite dishes through the terrace. the restaurants will often serve at the dinnertime but in May and September they will also open at the lunch time. Don't forget than you're always welcome on the yuka !
It's also a great opportunity and the last chance to get dress up with kimono before the yukata season starts ;)
